Tour for the Cure

The Tour for the Cure is the ultimate baseball road trip - a unique venture to raise funds for cancer research. In collaboration with the Jimmy Fund and the world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Tour will visit all 189 major & minor league baseball stadiums across the United States.
TomTom provided these travelers with a TomTom ONE, so they could navigate their way across the country. Beginning April 4, the Tour began and the device has been deemed “indispensable” as the travelers have become “100% reliant on TomTom.”
TomTom is excited to be a part of this great cause and wish them the best of luck on their tour. Continue reading to hear from the travelers themselves.
April 24th—Hello from the road! The Tour for the Cure is currently outside of Greenville, SC, about to head to our 27th game in just under three weeks time. It has been a whirlwind adventure so far, and we’ve been to so many places around the country in just such a short time. The Tour is off to a great start, having raised a significant amount of money so far for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Our goal is to reach $100,000 by the end of the summer, and as the trip picks up steam I believe we will be very close to reaching our goal.
So far, the Tour for the Cure team has traveled just under 6,000 miles in the month of April. The morning the Tour for the Cure Team was scheduled to leave for its trip, I received a package from TomTom that contained a TomTom One GPS unit. I took it out of the box, set it up in my car, and entered my destination for the day (Dublin, OH via Philadelphia, PA). Ever since then the TomTom unit has not left our side. We have driven through and visited 14 states, and not once has our GPS led us astray. I can honestly say without hesitation that the trip wouldn’t have been possible without using our TomTom unit.
Besides driving from stadium to stadium, TomTom also helps us find navigate to wherever we need to go. Some examples include:
— Finding food — Next to finding each baseball stadium, our other most frequented destinations are restaurants. TomTom lets you search for restaurants along your route, near your destination, or just about anywhere within a specified target area. We always are able to find our favorite restaurants and eateries every day using TomTom.
— Gas — We often are in the car for five or six hours a day driving across states, on highways, turnpikes, back roads, main streets, etc. In order to maximize our total driving time, we use the TomTom One to find the closet gas stations when we are running on fuel. We usually have to stop for gas almost every day, and it’s great not having to worry about how close the next gas station is. Just query the TomTom unit for gas station locations, and it will give you directions, mileage, and the length of time until you reach your next closest gas station.
— Hotels — Often, we are driving late at night back from the game to our hotel room. We are in a different hotel and location every night, and we are always able to get to our hotel (and to bed) as quickly as possible thanks to TomTom!
We have only begun to scratch the surface in terms of what the TomTom One can do for us on this trip. Thanks to TomTom for giving us such a great GPS unit! Please be sure to follow our adventures on http://www.tourforthecure.org!
