Phil, there is a third party program called Tyre that will take a route built with Google Maps and create a TomTom Itinerary file from it. The process isn't exactly quick and painless, but I know quite a few people that use it regularly and like the results.

Quickest route is not always my route. It would be great to download Google Map Routes to TomTom GPS units. (including the entry level models). Google Maps routes are very easy to set up by point and click with the mouse. (No addresses needed). Then with mouse grab and drag route legs to place on road of my choosing. With this I can have my TomTom lead me along MY user selected arbitrary route as I planned. The fun route!
