We know you’d rather be focusing your mind on more important things like the beach and how best to enjoy it. However, a few summer safety tips never hurt anyone. As a courtesy to you, we offer a few pieces of advice to help you get the most out of your TomTom this season.
Protect your TomTom
This one seems pretty self-explanatory, but it’s a piece of advice we probably can’t hammer home enough. For the security of your TomTom AND your car, take both the device and mount off the windshield when leaving the car. Also, that telltale mark the suction cup leaves is a billboard to potential thieves as well. For added safety, wipe that smudge off your windshield before walking away from your car.
Also, temperature extremes are no friends to your TomTom. Don’t leave it anywhere that is too hot (example: a baking car in the summer) or cold (example: your freezer).
Seek alternate routes
This feature is convenient for getting you out of gridlock and to your destination, but it also can add a new dimension to your summer journey. Tell your TomTom to bring you down a certain road or through a certain town. Look, the quickest way isn’t always the most fun. America is a pretty big country (third largest depending on how you look at it), your TomTom can help you see more of it.
Mount it properly
Did you double lock your mount? A few Club TomTom regulars have reported to that their GO 510 and 910 suction cup mounts sometimes droop so that their device’s touchscreen faces the dashboard. And what good is a four-inch wide touchscreen you can’t see? Turns out they just needed one more click to the right.
Proper installation of a GO 510 or 910 in your car takes just a few easy steps.
- Place the mount on the desired spot on your windshield and turn the dial to the right until it clicks once (make sure your windshield is clean)
- Place your TomTom on the spoon of the mount and adjust the elbow so that you can clearly see the screen from your position in the car.
- Turn the dial to the right again until it clicks once more to lock it in position.
The last step is the trick. This will lock the elbow of the mount in place to prevent drooping. For the visually inclined, check out this instructional video on how to properly use the GO 510 & 910 mount; it’s no Citizen Kane, but the video has a downright funky groove playing in the background, so that’s cool.
Call ahead
Your Points of Interest are powerful. For example, tap on a particular restaurant on the map and you’re provided with their phone number. Imagine it’s Saturday night, you’re in an unfamiliar place and hungry to boot. Now you can find a restaurant AND go ahead and get on that trendy list. You see, TomTom won’t just get you there the easy way, we can even make it easier when you arrive.
No, please, the applause isn’t necessary.
