Manual Phonebook Entry For TomTom GO 700

The TomTom GO 700 has the ability to import your mobile phone contact list so the numbers are available directly through the TomTom touch screen.  For those who are currently unable to utilize this feature, you can also manually enter numbers to populate the GO 700’s phonebook.  Follow the directions below to create your own customized phonebook.

  1. On your computer, create a new *.TXT file using Microsoft Word or Notepad.  Save it as “contacts.txt”.
  2. Within this text file enter one name and number per line for your contacts in this format:
    • "name”,“number”
    • Example: “Thomas”,"1-555-555-5555”
    • Example: “Thomas”,“15555555555”
  3. Save the file.
  4. Connect your TomTom GO 700 to the PC using the supplied USB Cable.
  5. Open the TomTom GO 700 drive and copy the “contacts.txt” file into the root directory.
  6. Eject the TomTom GO 700 and unplug the USB cable.
  7. Next time you turn on your TomTom GO 700 the phonebook should be populated!

It is recommended that you make a backup of all the files on your TomTom prior to any custom installations.

Also works on GO 720 but you copy the file to the “contacts” directory under the root directory, as in x:/contacts
