Changing Your TomTom GO Splash Screen

You can now customize your TomTom GO with a personal picture that displays on start-up and shutdown! This is easily accomplished using your PC and the included USB cable. To change the TomTom splash screen follow the instructions below:

  1. Select the image or photograph you want to have displayed on your TomTom GO
  2. Open an image editing program (Paint, Microsoft Office Picture Manager, etc.)and rotate the selected image 90 degrees clockwise
  3. Re-size the image to 320 pixels high x 240 pixels wide. (For TomTom Navigator the image needs to be resized to 320 pixels HIGH and 240 pixels WIDE.)
  4. Save the image as a 24-bit Bitmap file named “splash.bmp”
  5. Plug Your TomTom GO into your computer via the USB cable
  6. Open your TomTom GO “hard drive” within My Computer
  7. Locate the original splash file which is called “splash.bmp” and rename it to “splash1.bmp” (this naming allows you keep the original TomTom splash screen)
  8. Copy your image (splash.bmp) from your computer to the same TomTom GO directory
  9. Disconnect and boot up your TomTom GO.  Your personalized picture should be there to greet you when you turn it on or off!

For TomTom GO (700) the image should also be 320 HIGH and 240 WIDE, and not the other way around as stated in the instructions…

Thank you Eelco Langelaan for the correction. :)

On a TomTom 700 the splash screen was replaced and works normally buton a TTGo it didn’t work? Any idea why?

Chris 12.13.05 at 3:48 pm

Worked like a charm, once I caught that the .bmp can only be 24 bit. Thanks for the help.

Administrator 12.14.05 at 12:40 pm

Hey Kenneth – frequently problems occur when renaming or formatting the image to replace the splash screen. Make sure that your custom image is a 24-bit bitmap file named “splash.bmp”. If this does not correct your problem please e-mail us at asktomtom@clubtomtom.com and I can help you further.

Works like a charm, I saved my file in Photoshop as a 24 bit and it looks great. Thanks.

I have a LG VX8100 cell phnoe, I have not been able to add my contact lists to my Go 700. I have downloaded the new 5.420 version and still no luck. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks for this info..especially the bit about 320 high and 240 wide. I did it the other way around and the splash would only come up after I removed and replaced the SD card.. Now it comes on every time I turn it on or off! Sweet..

Hello Mark, several phones are able to connect via Bluetooth to the GO devices and transfer the phone’s contact list. Please check the compatibility list located online here:

If you have any further questions, please let us know!

I tried again last night; created a 320 wide x240 tall jpeg and saved as bitmap 24-bit after rotating it clockwise. And then send it to my TomTom Go. It replaced the splash screen. Neat!

Hello

I have tried this when trying to change the splash on a 910 - no luck - any ideas ??

Thanks guys

Administrator 06.19.06 at 11:31 am

matthew,

Have you made sure to re-size the image to 320 pixels high x 240 pixels wide? Also, make sure to save the image as a 24-bit Bitmap file named “splash.bmp” Don’t forget to locate the original splash file which is called “splash.bmp” and rename it to “splash1.bmp” (this naming allows you keep the original TomTom splash screen).

Give it another shot, and let us know if you can get it to work.

The x10 series require an image of 480×272, the image should be landscape i.e. as you would view it and replaces the file splashw.bmp in the root of the SDcard or hard drive depending on which model you have.

Hope this helps.

With Reference to Ron Aug 27th 2006 I had the same Problem with my 510 saved as splashw.bmp rather than splash.bmp as above and worked perfectly and as phil said June 28th 2006 save image at 480 x 272 pixels

you can also do the same for antitheft.bmp, that way you can put the image you want when shutting down

Jonathan Pope 01.09.08 at 8:24 pm

Does anyone have a transparent TomTom Logo to add to splash screens pictures to make them look professional.

Many Thanks

Jon

Robert 01.13.08 at 6:21 pm

You can also change the signoff splash screen too! Just repeat the process for the file antitheftw.bmp (antitheft.bmp for small screens) and make sure that the antitheft warning is turned on in safety alerts.

Robert 01.13.08 at 10:27 pm

Please note that if you use your TomTom upside-down you will need to create and use upside-down splash screens. TomTom does not turn these upside-down automatically for you!

I have a Tom Tom One XL and looking to get my bluetooth working. Anybody can help? Thanks

Mike 10.28.09 at 6:07 pm

My BlackBerry phone is looking for the TomTom One XL but also for a code. Do you know where I will find the Tom Tom code??

Ashley 12.09.09 at 4:29 pm

For pairing to work, the phone must be compatible and the TomTom must be the device which is doing the searching. Please see http://www.tomtom.com/6351 for additional information.

This worked perfect! Thanks!
