Change your TomTom device’s splash screen… Redux!

Here are some updated instructions on how to change the startup image on your TomTom device…

1. Select the image or photograph you want to have displayed on your TomTom device.

2. Re-size the image to:
• 320 pixels wide x 240 pixels high (TomTom ONE, ONE 3rd edition)
• 480 wide x 272 pixels high (TomTom ONE XL/XL*S, GO 720/920/T)

3. Save the image as a 24-bit Bitmap file named “splash.bmp” (ONE) or “splashw.bmp” (ONE XL/XL*S, GO 720/920/T)

4. Plug Your TomTom device into your computer via the USB cable

5. Open your TomTom “hard drive” within My Computer

6. Locate the original splash file which is called either “splash.bmp” or “splashw.bmp” and rename it “splash1.bmp” (this naming allows you keep the original TomTom splash screen)

7. Copy your image (splash.bmp OR splashw.bmp) from your computer to the same TomTom directory

8. Disconnect and boot up your TomTom device. Your personalized picture should be there to greet you when you turn it on.

Keep playing! For advanced users, there are other images in your device’s root file that can be changed for further personalization.

BE ADVISED: When modding your device, ALWAYS create a backup using TomTom HOME software. (But how do I do that?)

I have attempted contact with TomTom by Email several times and have not received any returns. I do have some questions and would like answers.

My wife bought me a TomTom 920T for my Birthday, after I bought her a Tom Tom for her Birthday. We love it. We bought TomTom’s with European maps because we are both military and travel to Italy from time to time, and hope to be stationed there one day. On our last visit I did an abnormal amount of bicycleling. I realized t would have been great to be able to mount the Tom Tom to my Cannondale R600. Does Tom Tom make an mount compatible for bicycling? Or are there any companies that make mounts for bicycles that are compatible with the TomTom 920T?

    Thank You
    CPT Forsyth

    Hi David,

TomTom does not currently make a bicycle-compatible mount. However, there may be third-party manufacturers who do.

I’d head over to sites such as www.tomtomforums.com or www.gpsreview.net. These forums – which are not affiliated with TomTom in any way – have very knowledgeable people who might be able to help.

    Thanks for stopping by!

David - Check out this RAM mount for your 920T. You should be able to mount it on your bike with this:
