Should I get a device with LIVE services? What about the screen size? What’s the best fit for a first time driver, college student or frequent business traveler?

Valid questions - but don’t worry! We’re here to help.

Here are a few questions you might ask yourself as you weigh your options:

• Where and how often will my loved one use the GPS device? – Before selecting a GPS device, you should consider how you, or your friend or family member, one plans to use it. Will they be driving around the city or the country; on long road trips or around your own town, etc.? If all they need is simple A-to-B navigation on occasion, you might consider selecting an entry-level model. On the other hand, if they are going to be traveling in dense traffic often, you might consider the mid-range or high-end models that provide more features and functionality.

• Small screen or wide screen? – Another item to consider is how wide they like their screen. If they prefer a sleek, portable unit, then you might go for a 3.5” device. If they prefer their screens big and bold, you might decide to go with a model that offers a 5” screen.

• What’s their frequency? – Once you’ve thought about where and how your loved one will use the device and what size screen makes sense, you can then decide whether or not they need live and/or wireless services like traffic or fuel price information. Most devices allow for these services through an antenna, but high-end models tend to offer these features wirelessly through a SIM card and GPRS modem. So, deciding what the gift recipient prefers is important.

• How customizable? – For some people, customization might not be a concern, but for others it’s essential. Fortunately, most GPS devices offer the ability to download celebrity voices, choose a car icon or even create their own content such as voices or images.
