TomTom Partners with Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins to Expand POIs

Coffee loyalists and sweet-tooth savvies can now breathe a sigh of relief.  When desperate for a Dunkin’ Decaf, Boston Kreme Donut or Jamoca® Almond Fudge ice cream, motorists can now tap their TomTom navigation systems and see Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins logos as Points of Interest (POI) on the 3D map.  Beginning today, fans of Dunkin’ Donuts’ famous coffee blend and 31 Flavors can locate and navigate to over 2,700 Baskin-Robbins nationally and 4,400 Dunkin’ Donuts outposts in 27 states using any of TomTom’s GPS products.  For more information see the full press release here.

TomTom Captures #2 Market Share For Mobile Navigation

NPD Group Reveals TomTom GO 300 and GO 700 Personal GPS Systems Increase 250% market share in 6 months

Concord, MA – February 14, 2006 - America has chosen TomTom as the #2 brand for mobile navigation during the fourth quarter of 2005 - accounting for 25 percent of unit sales, according to recently released retail sales data from The NPD Group, one of the leading providers of retail market information. NPD information is based on data provided by a panel of 2.5 million consumers and point-of-sales tracking results from 600 retail partners worldwide. TomTom opened its US headquarters in December 2002 and major retailers started selling the TomTom GO 300 and TomTom GO 700 personal GPS units in June 2005. In this short period of time, the GO product line jumped from 7 percent market share in June to 25 percent market share in December 2005, taking the #2 position in the mobile navigation market.

2005 Engadget Awards Honors TomTom GO 700

The 2005 Engadget Awards named the TomTom GO 700 the "GPS Device or Application of the Year."  The Engadget Awards reward “the most interesting, innovative, feature-rich gadgets” of 2005.  Per the instruction of Engadget, we will keep our acceptance speech brief and just say "thanks a lot!"

What’s the Story on TomTom Map Upgrades?

TomTom supports the most competitive and affordable map upgrade in the industry.  The most recent U.S. map upgrade was released in Fall 2005; these maps are currently shipping with all new products.  The next map upgrade for GO and Navigator 5 will be available Summer 2006.  Currently, there are no map upgrades available.  To receive notification of map upgrades please register your product online and sign-up for TomTom newsletters.  Map upgrades will be available on CD-ROM or via download; this will require connecting the TomTom or your device  to a PC and updating via USB cable.

Map upgrades are made available for purchase at www.tomtom.com.  Prices will vary based on the type of product (CD, download, etc)  upgrade and the original date of purchase of your TomTom product or software.

Manual Phonebook Entry For TomTom GO 700

The TomTom GO 700 has the ability to import your mobile phone contact list so the numbers are available directly through the TomTom touch screen.  For those who are currently unable to utilize this feature, you can also manually enter numbers to populate the GO 700’s phonebook.  Follow the directions below to create your own customized phonebook.

  1. On your computer, create a new *.TXT file using Microsoft Word or Notepad.  Save it as “contacts.txt”.
  2. Within this text file enter one name and number per line for your contacts in this format:
    • "name”,“number”
    • Example: “Thomas”,"1-555-555-5555”
    • Example: “Thomas”,“15555555555”
  3. Save the file.
  4. Connect your TomTom GO 700 to the PC using the supplied USB Cable.
  5. Open the TomTom GO 700 drive and copy the “contacts.txt” file into the root directory.
  6. Eject the TomTom GO 700 and unplug the USB cable.
  7. Next time you turn on your TomTom GO 700 the phonebook should be populated!

It is recommended that you make a backup of all the files on your TomTom prior to any custom installations.
