On location… again

I’ve been out of the office this week at a video shoot. I had my super hi-resolution digital camera with me (my cellphone) and was able to get some shots from the set. But, as usual, instead of just telling you what we were doing, I’m going to make you work for it…

Recognize that skyline? Drop me a comment. First person to correctly identify the city in which we shot will get a mention on tomorrow’s blog post.

Oh and also…

P.S. Yes, I know I didn’t tell or ask what exactly we were doing on location; it’s kind of a wait and see thing.

A Belated CES Wrap-up

Mea culpa. I know I said I’d have a CES wrap-up post last week but, once again, technical issues emerged that were beyond my control. Turns out, everyone was trying to blog at the same time and broke the internet or something like that.

All in all, my first CES was really really great. I had a fantastic time talking to GPS aficionados and newbies alike. Of course, work kept me busy. When I wasn’t talking to vendors or visitors I was huddled in a corner with my laptop, trying to upload a 60MB video from a spotty WiFi connection that had a whopping 128K up/down capacity.

But, best of all, besides the eclectic Vegas nightlife, was when people would come up, unsolicited, and tell me what a great product we have. No joke. People would actually seek us out and tell us that they can’t live without their TomTom now. A fellow CES attendee who sat near me on my flight from Charlotte to Vegas even offered up a “That’s a fine product,” when he found out who I worked for. That felt pretty good.

Oh, by the way, you may say, “Wait, TomTom is just outside of Boston. What were you doing in Charlotte?” Yeah, I was bumped from my flight and had to go the long way around. But, the airline made up for it some with a smooth undelayed flight out of Vegas (and free ticket for future use). So, all is forgiven.

And, as promised, finally, that interview with Tim Flight of GPS Review. A few notes:
1) It was a spur of the moment thing that happened and I was, admittedly, a little unprepared.
2) The video is shaky.
3) The audio was taken in the middle of CES so, it’s not great either.

So, to sum up, I wasn’t good, the video is weak, the audio is barely passable, but Tim is great. Enjoy!

Entering the Homestretch

Today is the last day of CES. Here is a brief recap of how my morning went…

bag.jpeg

My bags are packed I’m ready to go. And I’m leaving on a… red eye, actually.

construction.jpeg

On the way to the convention center. There’s plenty of construction going on in Vegas right now. Hard to imagine this place getting any bigger. I guess maybe it’ll just get taller.

Almost there.

Sanitize first thing… for everyone’s sake.

Hop on the TomTom RIDER Suzuki and ride off into the Nevada desert.

I wish.

The show ends a bit early today, 3:00 PM PST, so I’ll have a wrap-up post later in the day.

We Won Something!

As has been mentioned a couple times this week, TomTom picked up two CES Design Innovations Awards this year. The first was for the sleek, innovative design of our top-of-the-line TomTom GO 920. Our new TomTom MapShare program also picked up one of these prestigious industry awards.

In terms of features, the one that’s causing the biggest stir among casual passers-by is the Voice Prompted Address Entry on the GO 920. Even with background noise that varies from din to roar at times, people are still able to tell the device where they want to go.

Technical questions haven’t been all that challenging today though. I’m a little disappointed. I offered a “bring it on” challenge yesterday. If any Club TomTom readers are here at the show, please commence the bringing.
