Get to know TomTom MapShare™

One of the most exciting features in the new TomTom GO 720 has to be TomTom MapShare™. This unique technology allows you – the user – the ability to update, add to and delete from your device’s map data at any time. Then, you can even share your changes with the TomTom community via TomTom HOME.

Sharing… isn’t that what it’s all about.

TomTom MapShare™ allows for six different types of on-the-fly changes to your maps:
• (Un)block a street in one or both directions
• Reverse direction
• Name or rename a street
• Add a POI
• Remove or rename a POI
• Add or change a POI phone number

In addition to these on-device changes, you can report 27 different types of map errors directly to TomTom such as new/missing roads, exits, and rotaries.

Perhaps the best part is that TomTom MapShare™ works with TomTom HOME to bring the user community together. Plus, TomTom map specialists are always working to verify all user changes to ensure that the updates users are reporting are accurate and correct. You can even download other users’ changes based on the level of trust you decide.

So, to break things down mathematically…

TomTom MapShare™ + (the power of community x more than 1,000,000 TomTom HOME users) + Constant updates = BETTER MAPS!

Meet 2007 Pedal Partner Megan O’Neil

MeganONeil4_1.jpg

As some Club TomTom regulars may remember, last year’s TomTom cycling team rode the Pan Massachusetts Challenge in support of Sydney Jo Barrette, our pedal partner. The Pedal Partner program pairs young cancer patients with race teams.

This year, the team is absolutely thrilled to be riding for TWO pedal partners. Once again, we are proud to be supporting Sydney Jo Barrette and we’ll have an update on her later this week.

However, until then, we are pleased to introduce you to our other Pedal Partner: Megan O’Neil. Megan’s a freshman in high school and is currently being treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma. She is a mature, bright and cheerful teenager who has a positive outlook on life and a personality that rubbed off on us all. We are also happy to report that as of last week, Megan is in remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma.

The Team is very proud to be riding for Megan and Sydney Jo. We just hope that we can make them proud!

You can help out! Click to learn more about the Pan Massachusetts Challenge.

Announcing the TomTom GO 720

TomTom is pleased to introduce the new TomTom GO 720! The latest product from the world’s largest provider of portable navigation solutions.

Our latest device is the first portable navigation device to feature user-editable maps, courtesy of our new TomTom MapShare™ technology. This first-to-market program lets users make, report, and share map improvements such as closed or renamed roads, moved or renamed points of interest, changed road directions, and more. Users can make changes to their maps right from their GO 720 and can receive other users’ changes by plugging their devices into their computers and using TomTom HOME, TomTom’s free desktop application. All reports will be sent to our new map specialists who will verify new map edits from our users.

Safety is another main focus of our newest car navigator. The GO 720’s innovative Help Me! menu contains information such as the nearest police station, hospital, or car-repair service. Also, the “Where am I” button provides a succinct location description that you can provide to emergency services if you happened to be stranded in an unfamiliar location. The improved hands-free calling and full duplex speaker allows you to call for help directly from the device (when connected to a compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone).

TomTom devices are also designed with an eye to personalization. The GO 720 makes many of your suggestions a reality including the ability to record your own voice directions and create individualized car icons.

Other additions include:
- Built-in FM Transmitter
- Access to real-time traffic data
- Building footprints and recessed bodies of water for better road views

The 2007 Pan Massachusetts Challenge is right around the corner and Team TomTom will be back on the road again this year.

The 28th edition of this trek across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has raised and contributed, since its inception, more than $171 million to cancer research. On August 4 and 5, 2007, more than 5,300 cyclists will travel through 46 scenic Massachusetts towns, covering 192 miles into Provincetown.

TomTom is very proud to be participating in this fantastic fundraiser. To learn more about and/or contribute to the Pan Mass Challenge, click here.

Stay tuned to Club TomTom for more information about our team and this year’s pedal partners.
